Singapore Botanic Gardens
Established in 1859, the Singapore Botanic Gardens played an important historical role in the introduction and promotion of many plants of economic value to Southeast Asia, including the Para Rubber tree. Over the years, the Gardens has continued to introduce and rejuvenate its horticultural attractions, each designed to enchant and delight while continuing its mission of connecting plants and people.
Today, the 82-hectare Gardens is a key civic and community space, and a national tourist destination. It is also an important institution for tropical botanical and horticultural research, education and conservation.
The Singapore Botanic Gardens showcases the best and most spectacular of tropical flora, including more than 10,000 types of plants and the region’s most significant living collections of documented palms, orchids, cycads and gingers. Its historic 19th century garden landscape is well preserved and includes the earliest ornamental designed lake in Singapore. Home to numerous heritage trees and a tract of primary rainforest, the Gardens is less than a 10-minute walk from the shopping belt in Orchard Road.
Good Class Bungalow Areas
Good Class Bungalows (GCBs) are the most expensive and exclusive landed properties in Singapore, with large land plots and luxurious features that make them stand out from other types of landed properties. They are considered to be the pinnacle of real estate and are highly sought after by the ultra-wealthy.
To be classified as a GCB, the property must have a minimum plot size of 1,400 square metres and a maximum height of 12 meters. Furthermore, the footprint of the house itself cannot occupy more than 40% of the entire land plot.
GCBs can only be located in any one of 39 residential areas in Singapore, gazetted by the Urban Redevelopment Authority as Good Class Bungalow areas. These gazetted areas are within the prime residential Districts of 10, 11, 20, 21 and 23, and are mainly freehold land .
Some examples of such areas include Cluny Hill, Holland Road, King Albert Park and Leedon Park.
Bukit Timah - Rochor Green Corridor
The Bukit Timah – Rochor Green Corridor is envisioned as a journey through a riverine forest and will include a linear sky park elevated above the canal. It will connect to the Rail Corridor near the Bukit Timah Railway Station community node. Visitors, including users of the Coast-to-Coast Trail, can look forward to a unique walking and cycling experience set amidst lush greenery. The first phase of the project comprises 1.4 km and stretches from the Rail Corridor to Elm Avenue. Construction of the first phase is estimated to complete by 2027, dovetailing with PUB’s canal improvement works. In the future, the corridor may be extended to Kallang Riverside Park, totalling 11 km.
